EARLY MORNINGS

Early morning is pretty much the norm in all branches of the military.  Reveille occurs at 0600 or 6:00am.  Often many are awake long before this time.  When home I get up around 0400.  Out to sea I'm still up around 0430.  On a ship with hundreds, and times thousands, of other Sailors, getting some privacy is a luxury.  One sight that I'm not thrilled about is half naked dudes shaving and showering in the same bathroom.  No one's walking around naked or anything, but it's just a nasty way to begin the day.  So I do my best to shower the night before I go bed and wake before anyone gets up themselves to shower.  This way I can at least shave and brush in private.

When in port or on shore duty (like I am now) I'm up early.  Like I stated above, I'm up around 0400 during the week.  Mainly because I live an hour from work and I need to be on the road before too much traffic.  On the weekends I sleep in until around 0600.  I try to get a bit of time alone before the kids begin their day.  If I don't spend the early morning reading my Bible and some time in prayer I will not find or make the time later in the day.  It's a routine that I still find difficult to maintain.

There are many oddities with military life.  I'll spend the next few days pointing out a few.
